“He’s a noble knight!” – all poor men claimed;
“He’s an arrant thief!” – the rich always blamed.
For the sake of justice he’d chosen his fate,
So the fear of travelers was great!
If one had much money, silver or gold,
He had better’ve kept away from that road!
Wisely-chosen target could never be missed
All the rules were plain and firmly fixed.
Beggars blessed his hand,
They were glad to shake it,
Being presented
With gifts and gold.
Rich men cursed his hand,
Trying to escape it!

Living in the gloomy depth of the wood,
Followed by the fellows – faithful but rude,
He was sure, no woman could join him this way,
But the things got different one day!
She was young. Her eyes were sparkling and bright.
She’d got used to pleasures, fun and delight,
Feelings to the robber – true fealty and love –
Made the beauty share his dangerous life.
